Japan bought and sold about 840 tons of short grain brown rice from Australia in the second CPTPP simultaneous buy and sell (SBS) tender conducted on September 24, 2019, according to a notice on the website of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry (MAFF).

Japan sought to import 1,000 tons of rice in the third CPTPP SBS tender. However, MAFF received applications for about 860 tons of Australian rice (including 820 tons of whole grain brown rice and about 40 tons of broken rice). Bids for 840 tons (including 800 tons of whole grain brown rice and about 40 tons of broken rice) are successful.

According to the news release, an additional estimate would be made for the unsuccessful 20 ton on September 25, 2019.
